How rights holders have a listing removed, and what a notice needs to contain.

BlueSystem is an index of information about software releases with links to files stored on third party services. No file is hosted on this server. Even so, valid removal notices from rights holders are acted on, quickly and without argument.

Sending a notice

Send notices through the contact form with the rights holder subject selected. A notice needs to contain all of the following, or it cannot be acted on:

  • Identification of the work you hold rights in, precisely enough that it can be recognised.
  • The exact address of each page on this site that you want removed. A general description of a category is not enough.
  • Your name, organisation, and an address that can be replied to.
  • A statement that you believe in good faith that the use is not authorised by the rights holder, its agent, or the law.
  • A statement that the information in the notice is accurate, and that you are the rights holder or authorised to act for them.
  • A physical or electronic signature.

What happens next

Valid notices are processed within two working days. The listing is removed, the mirrors for it are pulled, and a note is added to our records so the same release is not listed again by mistake. You will get confirmation once it is done.

If a notice is incomplete, we will write back saying which part is missing rather than ignoring it. Nothing is refused on a technicality that can be fixed by asking.

Counter notices

If a listing was removed and you believe that was a mistake, send a counter notice through the same route identifying the removed material, the address it appeared at, and your basis for believing the removal was in error, along with your contact details and signature. It will be reviewed and answered.

Repeated notices

Where a rights holder sends notices covering an entire catalogue, we would rather deal with the list once than page by page. Say so in the message and we will arrange it directly.
