DaVinci Resolve Studio

The Studio tier of the grading and finishing suite, which adds the neural engine tools, unlimited resolution, noise reduction, and multi-GPU support that the free version withholds.

Version 21.0.4 5.24 GB Windows 10 / 11 (64-bit) Updated 1 week ago

Overview

What this release is

Resolve is four applications sharing one timeline. The edit page handles the cut, Fusion handles compositing with a node graph, Color handles grading with the tools that made the program famous in post houses, and Fairlight handles audio mixing with a real console layout. Nothing has to be exported between them, which is the entire argument for the program.

The Studio tier is where the useful additions live. Temporal and spatial noise reduction, which is the single best reason to pay for it, along with the neural engine features covering face refinement, object masking, speed warp retiming, and depth map generation. Free Resolve is generous, but it stops exactly where professional finishing begins.

Resolution and performance limits are also lifted. The free version caps at UHD and single GPU; Studio removes both, adds hardware accelerated encoding for delivery, and enables remote grading and collaborative workflow over a shared database. On a machine with two cards the difference on a heavy node tree is dramatic.

The colour page itself remains the deepest set of grading tools in any application at any price. Primary and secondary correction, tracked power windows, curve based qualifiers, and a full node graph where every operation is visible and reorderable.

Feature set

What you get

Noise reduction

Temporal and spatial reduction that cleans high ISO footage without smearing motion, exclusive to the Studio tier.

Neural engine

Face refinement, object masking, speed warp retiming, and depth map generation driven by the built-in models.

Node based grading

Every correction is a visible node that can be reordered, disabled, or keyed independently.

Fusion page

Full node compositing with tracking, particles, and 3D, sharing the timeline with the edit.

Fairlight

A complete mixing environment with buses, automation, and hardware console support.

Multi-GPU

Uses every installed card for playback and rendering, with no resolution ceiling on delivery.

Changes in this build

What changed

  • Faster node graph evaluation on grades with more than fifty nodes
  • Neural engine object mask tracking improved through occlusion
  • Added hardware decode support for additional camera RAW formats
  • Fairlight automation now writes cleanly during looped playback
  • Fixed the render queue stall when a source file is relinked mid-job

Installation

How to install it

  1. Update your graphics driver first. Resolve is more sensitive to driver version than almost any other application here.
  2. Extract the archive to a short path with real time protection disabled.
  3. Run the installer as administrator and let it install the bundled Blackmagic components.
  4. Apply the included Studio activation step before the first launch.
  5. On first start, set the memory and GPU configuration in preferences to match your hardware.

Questions

Before you start

What does Studio add over the free version?

Noise reduction, the neural engine tools, multi-GPU support, no resolution cap, and hardware accelerated delivery encoding.

Does it need a Blackmagic hardware key?

Not in this build. The activation step handles the Studio state in software.

Why does playback stutter on the edit page?

Generate optimised media or lower the timeline proxy resolution. Resolve plays source files directly by default.

Can projects be shared between machines?

Yes, through a shared PostgreSQL database, which the installer can set up during installation.
