Audition is the program people open when a recording has a problem rather than when they want to compose one. Hum, hiss, room tone, clipping, and the neighbour's dog are the daily work, and the spectral display is where that work happens, showing sound as an image that noise can be painted out of directly.
The restoration toolset is the reason it stays installed on so many machines. The rebuilt noise reduction handles broadband hiss without the underwater artefacts that plagued older tools, the de-reverb and de-hum modules are genuinely usable rather than last resorts, and the sound remover can pull a single repeating interference out of an otherwise clean take.
For finishing work, the multitrack session engine handles dialogue, music, and effects on separate tracks with automation, buses, and a full effect rack. It links cleanly with Premiere Pro, so a sequence can be sent over for a proper mix and returned without exporting stems by hand.
