What this release is

Photoshop 2026 is the version most retouchers have been waiting for, and it is the one that finally makes the generative tools feel like part of the toolbar rather than a separate product bolted onto it. Selections, masks, and generative edits now share the same history stack, so an AI expansion can be stepped back through exactly like a brush stroke, and the layer it produces stays editable instead of collapsing to pixels the moment you click away.

The 2026 engine is the biggest change under the hood since the move to GPU compositing. Smart Objects containing multiple nested groups open in a fraction of the time they used to, brush lag on files above 500 megapixels is largely gone, and the new tile cache keeps scrolling smooth on documents that used to force a proxy view. On a mid-range card the difference is obvious within about thirty seconds of real work.

This build is the full desktop application, not a trimmed installer. Camera Raw, the complete Neural Filters set, the 3D compositing module, and the entire preset library ship inside the package, and nothing is fetched from an Adobe server the first time you open the program. The installer runs offline from start to finish, which is the main reason this release keeps climbing the charts week after week.

Colour handling has quietly improved as well. The new soft-proofing pipeline is far more honest about out-of-gamut warnings, HDR documents finally preview correctly on displays that report their own metadata, and the ICC handling on export no longer double-converts profiles when a document is flattened before saving.

Installation

How to install it

1. Turn off real time protection before extracting. The setup routine patches its own files and antivirus heuristics flag that behaviour on principle.
2. Extract the archive to a short path such as C:\Setup. Long nested folder names are the most common cause of a failed extraction.
3. Run the setup executable as administrator and pick your interface language on the first screen.
4. Leave the install location on the default drive unless you have a specific reason to move it. The package writes registry paths that expect it.
5. Do not sign in when the program opens for the first time, and block the executable in your firewall if you want the licence state to stay put.
