Overview
Vegas has always cut differently from everything else. Events sit on tracks that behave like audio tracks, trimming happens with the mouse without entering a mode first, and the keyboard covers almost the whole edit. Editors who learned it tend to be faster in it than in anything they switch to afterwards, which is why the program has kept a loyal base for decades.
Under Boris FX the effect side has improved sharply. Planar tracking, better keying, and a considerably stronger title tool are now part of the package rather than plugins bought separately, and the colour grading panel has been rebuilt with proper scopes and node style layering.
The 2026 build focuses on stability and playback. Long projects with heavy effect stacks hold up better, the media handling copes with mixed frame rates without the drift older versions were known for, and hardware decoding covers current camera codecs on both major GPU vendors.
Audio remains a genuine strength. The program grew out of an audio editor and it shows in the mixing console, the per event volume envelopes, and the fact that a complex sound edit can be done on the same timeline without a separate application.
