Movavi Screen Recorder

A capture tool aimed at people who want a recording finished in one sitting, with the trimming, annotation, and export tiers unlocked and the corner watermark removed from every output.

Version 24.7.0 142 MB Windows 10 / 11 (64-bit) Updated 5 days ago

Overview

What this release is

Screen recorders split into two groups. There are the broadcast tools built around scenes and sources, and there are the ones you open when you need a clip of something on screen and you need it now. Movavi is firmly in the second group, and it is unusually good at staying out of the way while you work.

Setup is a rectangle on the screen and two toggles. Pick the area, decide whether the microphone and system audio are recording, and press the key. There is no scene tree, no source list, and no audio mixer to configure before the first take, which is exactly right when the recording is a five minute explanation for a colleague.

The part that separates it from the free tools is what happens after you stop. The clip drops into a trimming view where you can cut the dead air at both ends, drop in callouts and arrows, highlight the cursor, and export straight to a common format at a sensible bitrate. Scheduled recording, webcam overlay, and drawing on screen while capturing round out the tool set.

This build has the paid tier unlocked, which covers the full export list, the annotation set, the scheduler, and output without the corner watermark that the trial stamps on everything.

Feature set

What you get

Immediate capture

Select a region and record. No scene tree, no source configuration, no mixer to set up first.

Cursor highlighting

Ring the pointer and show click effects, which makes a tutorial readable without narration explaining every step.

Webcam overlay

Record the camera as a movable, resizable overlay in the same pass as the screen.

Trim and annotate

Cut the dead ends, drop in arrows, boxes, and text callouts, all after the recording rather than during it.

Scheduler

Start and stop recording at a set time, useful for capturing a stream or a long process unattended.

Clean export

Full format list unlocked with no watermark and presets sized for the common sharing destinations.

Changes in this build

What changed

  • Hardware encoding extended to more recent graphics hardware
  • Added a frame rate selector up to 120 for smoother motion capture
  • Annotation tools reworked with a wider colour and stroke selection
  • Reduced dropped frames when recording a full screen game at high refresh rates
  • Fixed the audio desync on recordings longer than two hours

Installation

How to install it

  1. Disable real time protection before extracting, since the setup modifies its own files.
  2. Extract to a short path and run the installer as administrator.
  3. Do not launch the program until the included activation step has been applied.
  4. Set the output folder to a fast drive with plenty of space before the first long recording.
  5. Block the executable in your firewall so the licence state is not checked on launch.

Questions

Before you start

Does it record system audio and microphone separately?

Yes, on separate tracks, so one can be adjusted or removed without touching the other.

Is there a time limit on recordings?

No. Length is limited only by free disk space.

Can it capture a full screen game?

Yes, with hardware encoding enabled. Windowed and borderless modes are the most reliable.

Is a full editor included?

No. This is the recorder with trimming and annotation. The larger editing suite is a separate product.
