Steinberg Cubase Pro

The full production environment for recording, arranging, mixing, and scoring, with the complete instrument and effect library included rather than left as a separate download.

Version 15.0.30 24.8 GB Windows 10 / 11 (64-bit) Updated 6 days ago

Overview

What this release is

Cubase Pro is the top tier of the range, and the distance between it and the cheaper tiers is not subtle. Unlimited tracks, the full mixing console with channel strip on every channel, the score editor, surround handling, and the complete set of bundled instruments all live at this level, and this package installs every part of it.

The workflow is built around a timeline that treats audio and MIDI as equal citizens. Comping takes and lanes, tempo detection that follows a live performance, and the sample editor that lets a recorded part be pitch corrected without leaving the arrangement window are the tools that make long sessions bearable rather than exhausting.

The mixer is the part experienced users defend most. Every channel carries the same strip, routing is flexible to the point of being confusing at first, and the control room section gives separate monitor and headphone paths that behave properly during a tracking session with people in the room.

The full content library is the reason for the download size. Instrument libraries, loop sets, presets, and the effect collection together account for the bulk of it, and all of it installs offline with no content downloader step at the end.

Feature set

What you get

Unlimited tracks

No track ceiling at the Pro tier, with the full channel strip available on every channel in the project.

Comping and lanes

Record multiple takes into lanes and assemble the final performance by dragging across them.

Score editor

Full notation view of any MIDI part, with layout and printing suitable for handing to a player.

Control room

Separate monitor, headphone, and talkback paths for tracking with performers in the room.

Bundled content

The complete instrument, loop, and effect library included rather than offered as a separate download.

Tempo detection

Follows the timing of a freely played performance and builds a usable tempo map from it.

Changes in this build

What changed

  • Rebuilt project browser that opens far faster on sessions with hundreds of tracks
  • Improved latency compensation on chains with several high latency plugins
  • Score editor layout engine updated for cleaner multi-part output
  • Extended pattern editor with per-step controls
  • Fixed the crash on closing a project with an unsaved external instrument mapping

Installation

How to install it

  1. Extract the archive to a short path with at least 40 GB free during setup.
  2. Turn off real time protection before extracting, since the setup routine modifies its own files.
  3. Run setup as administrator and choose which content libraries to install. All of them together are very large.
  4. Do not launch the program before completing the included licensing step.
  5. Open Cubase and confirm it reaches the project window without asking for a licence device.

Questions

Before you start

Does it need the hardware licence device?

No. This configuration is standalone and does not look for one.

Can projects from older versions be opened?

Yes, going back many releases. Projects are converted on open and saved as a new file.

Is the full content library included?

Yes, which is why the package is as large as it is. Nothing streams in afterwards.

Why is the first launch slow?

The program scans and validates every installed plugin. Later launches use the cached list and are much faster.
