TechSmith Camtasia

Screen recording and editing in one program, aimed squarely at tutorials, training material, and product walkthroughs rather than at cinematic work.

Version 26.2.0.19099 1.42 GB Windows 10 / 11 (64-bit) Updated 4 days ago

Overview

What this release is

Camtasia solves a narrow problem extremely well. Record what is on screen, along with the webcam and microphone, then cut it into something watchable without learning a professional timeline editor. For training material, software walkthroughs, and course content it is faster than any general purpose editor by a wide margin.

The recorder captures the screen at full frame rate, tracks the cursor separately from the video, and stores the microphone and system audio on their own tracks. Because the cursor is recorded as data rather than as pixels, it can be enlarged, highlighted, or given click effects after the fact, which is the single feature that makes software demonstrations readable.

The editor is deliberately simple. Drag a callout onto the timeline, trim with the playhead, and use the behaviours and transitions from the built in library. Annotations, zoom and pan animations, and the quiz feature that reports back to a learning platform are all included without any extra module.

Templates and themes keep a series consistent. Set the colours, fonts, and intro once and every following video inherits them, which matters more than it sounds when a course runs to forty parts.

Feature set

What you get

Screen recorder

Full frame rate capture with webcam, microphone, and system audio kept on separate tracks.

Cursor data

The pointer is recorded as data, so it can be enlarged, highlighted, or given click effects afterwards.

Zoom and pan

Animated emphasis on part of the frame, which is what makes small interface details readable.

Annotation library

Callouts, arrows, blur regions, and lower thirds included with a consistent style set.

Templates and themes

Lock colours, fonts, and intro sequences so an entire series looks like one piece of work.

Quizzing

Insert questions into a video and report results to a learning platform that accepts the standard format.

Questions

Before you start

Does it record system audio?

Yes, on its own track separate from the microphone, so the two can be balanced independently.

Can it capture a single window?

Yes, or a fixed region, or the full screen. The region can be locked to a preset size for consistent output.

Is there a watermark on export?

No. This configuration exports clean at every resolution.

Why is the recording file so large?

The capture format is lightly compressed for editing speed. The exported file is far smaller.
