Topaz Video AI Pro

Model driven video upscaling, denoising, and frame interpolation that rebuilds detail rather than sharpening it, with the complete model set installed locally for offline processing.

Version 7.1.6 3.41 GB Windows 10 / 11 (64-bit) Updated 6 days ago

Overview

What this release is

Traditional upscaling interpolates between pixels and the result looks exactly like what it is. Topaz Video AI takes a different route, using trained models to reconstruct detail that the source resolution could not hold. On archival footage, old camera formats, and compressed downloads, the difference between this and a conventional resize is not subtle.

The model set is specialised rather than general. Different models handle progressive video, interlaced broadcast material, heavily compressed sources, and computer generated animation, because each degrades differently. Choosing the right model for the footage matters more than any slider in the interface.

Frame interpolation is the second major tool. Generating intermediate frames converts material to a higher frame rate or produces convincing slow motion from footage never shot for it, with far fewer of the warping artefacts that optical flow approaches leave behind on fast motion.

Stabilisation, deinterlacing, and grain management round out the set. Everything runs locally on the graphics card with no upload step, and the whole model library is installed with the application rather than fetched per job.

Feature set

What you get

Detail reconstruction

Rebuilds plausible detail during upscaling instead of interpolating between existing pixels.

Specialised models

Separate models for progressive, interlaced, heavily compressed, and computer generated sources.

Frame interpolation

Generates intermediate frames for higher frame rates or convincing slow motion from ordinary footage.

Stabilisation

Full frame stabilisation with rolling shutter correction and an auto crop option.

Local processing

Everything runs on the local graphics card. No footage is uploaded at any point.

Batch queue

Process an entire folder overnight with per-file model settings preserved.

Changes in this build

What changed

  • New model for heavily compressed streaming sources
  • Faster processing on recent GPU generations
  • Improved interpolation on fast horizontal motion
  • Reduced VRAM use during high resolution export
  • Fixed the queue halting when an output path becomes unavailable

Installation

How to install it

  1. Confirm the graphics card meets the requirement. This is a GPU bound application and a weak card makes it unusable.
  2. Extract to a short path with real time protection disabled.
  3. Run setup as administrator and let the model library install completely.
  4. Apply the included registration step before opening the program.
  5. On first launch, run a short test clip to confirm the GPU is being used rather than the processor.

Questions

Before you start

Why is processing so slow?

Check that the GPU is selected in preferences. On processor fallback the speed drops by an order of magnitude.

Which model should be used?

Match the model to the source. Compressed downloads, broadcast material, and animation each have a dedicated model.

Is footage uploaded anywhere?

No. All processing happens locally on the installed models.

Can it fix badly shot footage?

It improves resolution, noise, and frame rate. It cannot recover detail that was never captured, such as severe focus errors.
