Overview

What this release is

uTorrent's advantage has always been its size. The whole client is a few megabytes, starts instantly, and sits in the tray using almost no memory while managing a queue of hundreds of transfers. Heavier clients offer more, but on a machine that is doing other work, this one stays out of the way.

The engine underneath is fully featured despite the size. Bandwidth scheduling by time of day, per-torrent speed and ratio limits, RSS feeds with automatic downloading rules, sequential downloading, magnet handling, and a web interface for remote control from another machine.

The Pro tier removes the advertising panels that made the free client unpleasant to look at, and adds streaming playback so a video can be watched while it downloads, plus a converter that handles the common playback formats. Both are useful, but the ad removal is what most people are actually here for.

Selective file downloading is the feature worth learning. Large collections can be filtered so only the wanted files transfer, with priority set per file, which saves both time and disk space on multi-part releases.

Installation

How to install it

1. Extract the archive with real time protection disabled.
2. Run the setup executable and decline any bundled offers presented during installation.
3. Do not open the program before applying the included registration step.
4. Start the client and confirm no advertising panels appear in the interface.
5. Set your disk cache and connection limits in preferences to match your line and hardware.
