Autodesk AutoCAD 2027
The drafting application that the DWG format was built around.
The mechanical engineering edition of AutoCAD, carrying the standard parts libraries, the calculation tools, and the drafting automation that manufacturing documentation depends on.
Overview
AutoCAD Mechanical is the base application with roughly a decade of manufacturing drafting work already built into it. Everything the standard version does is still here, but sitting on top is a layer of tooling aimed squarely at production drawings, and the time it saves is measured in whole working days over the life of a project.
The standard parts libraries are the reason most people install this edition. Hundreds of thousands of components across the major international standards, drawn correctly, sized parametrically, and inserted with their properties intact. A bolted joint that would take twenty minutes to draw and check by hand is placed in under a minute, and it is right the first time.
The calculation tools cover the routine engineering checks that would otherwise happen in a spreadsheet beside the drawing. Shaft loading, bearing life, spring rates, and moment of inertia are computed against the geometry in the drawing rather than against numbers retyped from it, which removes the most common source of quiet errors in a documentation set.
Drafting automation handles the parts of the job nobody enjoys. Balloons and parts lists are generated from the drawing and stay linked to it, dimension chains are created and maintained as a group, hidden line handling between overlapping components is managed automatically, and layer conventions are enforced by the standard rather than by memory.
This build is the complete application including the full standards content, the calculation modules, and the language packs. Everything installs locally and no component is fetched during setup or first launch.
Feature set
Hundreds of thousands of parametric components across the major international standards, inserted with properties attached.
Shaft, bearing, spring, and section calculations performed against the actual drawing geometry.
Parts lists generated from the drawing and kept linked, so renumbering propagates in both directions.
Chain, baseline, and ordinate dimension groups created and maintained as single editable objects.
Overlapping components resolved automatically, with the result updating when geometry moves.
Layer, line type, and annotation conventions applied by the chosen standard rather than by hand.

Questions
Yes, and it saves back to the same format. Mechanical objects appear as proxy graphics when opened in the standard version.
No, but without them this is essentially the standard application with extra menus.
The main international and national drafting standards are all present, selectable during setup and changeable afterwards.
It does. They install to separate folders and keep separate profiles.
