Autodesk AutoCAD 2027
The drafting application that the DWG format was built around.
The building information modelling application that architectural, structural, and services teams coordinate through, with the full family library and all three discipline modules installed.
Overview
Revit models a building rather than drawing one. Walls know their construction, doors know which walls they sit in, and every plan, section, elevation, and schedule is a view of the same model. Change a floor level and the entire drawing set changes with it, which is the reason the industry moved to it despite the learning curve.
All three disciplines are in one application. Architecture, structure, and building services model in the same file, so coordination happens in the model rather than in a meeting about clashing drawings. Worksharing lets a team work in a central file simultaneously, with ownership managed per element.
Schedules and quantities come straight from the model. Door schedules, room areas, material takeoffs, and equipment lists are queries against the building rather than tables maintained by hand, and they cannot fall out of step with the drawings because they are generated from the same data.
This package installs the complete family and content libraries for the included regions, which is a large part of the download size but is what makes the program usable on day one rather than after weeks of building content.
Feature set
Every plan, section, elevation, and schedule is a view of one building model that updates together.
Architecture, structure, and building services model in the same file for direct coordination.
A team works in a central file at once with element level ownership and synchronisation.
Quantities, areas, and equipment lists generated from the model rather than maintained separately.
Build parametric components with typed dimensions, materials, and visibility rules.
Full regional family libraries installed with the application instead of downloaded later.

Questions
Yes, and they upgrade on open. The upgrade is one way, so keep a copy of the original file.
Only a shared network path for the central file. No dedicated server software is required.
The regional content libraries make up most of it. They can be partially deselected during setup.
Yes, DWG files can be linked or imported and will update when the source changes.
The drafting application that the DWG format was built around.
The push-pull modeller that architects and set designers reach for when an idea needs to exist in three dimensions this afternoon.
The parametric mechanical design package in its Premium configuration.
Real time architectural visualisation that turns a raw building model into a presentable image or animation in an afternoon.
