Overview

What this release is

Revit models a building rather than drawing one. Walls know their construction, doors know which walls they sit in, and every plan, section, elevation, and schedule is a view of the same model. Change a floor level and the entire drawing set changes with it, which is the reason the industry moved to it despite the learning curve.

All three disciplines are in one application. Architecture, structure, and building services model in the same file, so coordination happens in the model rather than in a meeting about clashing drawings. Worksharing lets a team work in a central file simultaneously, with ownership managed per element.

Schedules and quantities come straight from the model. Door schedules, room areas, material takeoffs, and equipment lists are queries against the building rather than tables maintained by hand, and they cannot fall out of step with the drawings because they are generated from the same data.

This package installs the complete family and content libraries for the included regions, which is a large part of the download size but is what makes the program usable on day one rather than after weeks of building content.

Installation

How to install it

Free at least 40 GB before starting. The unpack stage alone needs a great deal of temporary space.
Extract the archive to a short path with real time protection disabled.
Run setup as administrator and select the content libraries for your region only.
Do not open the program until the included licensing step has been applied.
Start Revit and confirm it opens to the recent files screen without a sign in prompt.

Before you start

Can models from older versions be opened?

Yes, and they upgrade on open. The upgrade is one way, so keep a copy of the original file.

Does worksharing need a server?

Only a shared network path for the central file. No dedicated server software is required.

Why is the download so large?

The regional content libraries make up most of it. They can be partially deselected during setup.

Does it link with AutoCAD drawings?

Yes, DWG files can be linked or imported and will update when the source changes.
