Overview

What this release is

Lumion is built around one idea: a designer should be able to render their own work without becoming a visualisation specialist. Import the model, drop it into a landscape, paint materials onto the surfaces, place a camera, and the result appears in real time rather than after a render queue. What takes a week in a traditional renderer takes an afternoon here.

The content library is the product as much as the engine is. Thousands of trees, people, vehicles, furniture pieces, and material definitions ship with the Pro tier, all built to work with the lighting model, so a scene can be populated convincingly without sourcing assets from anywhere else.

Animation is handled the same way. Camera paths, moving vehicles and people, weather, and time of day are all set on a timeline and previewed live. Output covers still images, video, and 360 degree panoramas for walkthrough presentations.

Live sync connects to the modelling application so changes to the model appear in the scene as they are made, which removes the export cycle entirely. Sketchup, Revit, ArchiCAD, Rhino, and Vectorworks are all supported.

Installation

How to install it

Confirm the machine has a capable graphics card first. This is the most demanding title in the catalogue.
Free at least 60 GB. The content library is the bulk of the installation.
Extract to a short path with real time protection disabled and run setup as administrator.
Let the content library install completely. Interrupting it leaves the scene browser broken.
Apply the included licensing step, then launch and set the quality preset to match your hardware.

Questions

Before you start

Will it run on a laptop graphics card?

Only on high end mobile cards with sufficient VRAM. Below the requirement the program starts and then performs poorly.

Does live sync work with all the listed applications?

Yes, through the plugin installed for each one during setup.

Why is the download so large?

The content library accounts for most of it and cannot be usefully separated from the application.

Can scenes from older versions be opened?

Yes, and they convert on open. Content that has been replaced in the library may need reassigning.
