Autodesk Fusion 360

Modelling, simulation, and manufacturing in one application, covering parametric design through to machine toolpaths without moving the model between separate packages.

Version 2.0.21500 2.06 GB Windows 10 / 11 (64-bit) Updated 1 week ago

Overview

What this release is

Fusion 360 collapses what used to be four separate purchases into one application. Parametric solid modelling, freeform surface work, direct mesh editing, assembly design, simulation, and machine toolpath generation all operate on the same model, so a change to a feature propagates through the drawings, the simulation setup, and the machining operations without exporting anything.

The modelling side is genuinely capable rather than a simplified version of a real package. A full parametric history tree with editable features, sketch constraints and equations, sheet metal with flat pattern generation, weldments, and an assembly environment with joints, motion, and interference checking. Surface modelling handles the organic shapes that a purely prismatic modeller cannot express.

Simulation covers the checks that matter before a part is cut: static stress, modal frequency, thermal behaviour, buckling, and injection moulding fill analysis. The results come back as annotated visualisations on the model itself, and because it is the same model, changing a fillet and re-running takes minutes rather than a round trip through another application.

The manufacturing workspace is a complete CAM system. Two through five axis milling, turning, wire cutting, and additive preparation, with a full library of post processors for real machine controllers, toolpath simulation with collision checking, and the tool library management that a working shop needs. For a small shop this alone justifies the installation.

This build runs as a locally installed application with the licensing configured so no account sign in is required at launch. The cloud collaboration features are unavailable in this configuration, and everything else operates from local project files on the machine.

Feature set

What you get

Unified model

Design, simulation, and machining all operating on one model, so a change propagates everywhere without an export.

Parametric and freeform

Full feature history modelling alongside surface and mesh tools for shapes a prismatic modeller cannot express.

Simulation suite

Static stress, modal, thermal, buckling, and moulding analysis reported directly on the model.

Complete CAM

Two through five axis milling, turning, and wire cutting with real machine post processors and collision checked simulation.

Sheet metal and assemblies

Flat pattern generation, joints, motion study, and interference checking across full assemblies.

Local operation

Runs without an account sign in, working from local project files rather than a cloud workspace.

Changes in this build

What changed

  • Faster model regeneration on assemblies with deep feature histories
  • Toolpath calculation moved further onto multiple cores, cutting generation time substantially
  • Simulation meshing improved on thin walled and highly curved geometry
  • Post processor library extended with additional machine controllers
  • Fixed the sheet metal flat pattern error on parts containing conical bends

Installation

How to install it

  1. Turn off real time protection before extracting and keep it off until the licensing step completes.
  2. Extract to a short path on a drive with at least 8 GB free.
  3. Run the installer as administrator. The setup takes noticeably longer than its size suggests.
  4. Apply the included licensing configuration before the first launch.
  5. Open the application, choose offline working when prompted, and block outbound access so the state holds.

Questions

Before you start

Does it work without a connection?

Yes in this configuration. Projects are stored locally and the cloud collaboration features are simply unavailable.

Is the CAM side complete?

It is. Multi axis milling, turning, wire cutting, and additive preparation are all present with real post processors.

Can it open files from other CAD packages?

Yes. The common exchange formats and most native formats from the major packages import directly.

Are the simulation results reliable?

For comparative design work, yes. Certification level analysis still belongs in a dedicated finite element package.
