Autodesk AutoCAD 2027
The drafting application that the DWG format was built around.
Garment design with a real time cloth simulator behind it, so a flat pattern can be sewn, draped, and fitted on a parametric avatar before any fabric is cut.
Overview
CLO connects two things that used to sit in separate worlds: the flat pattern and the finished garment. You draw the pattern pieces in a two dimensional window, define the seams between them, and the three dimensional window shows the garment sewn together and hanging on an avatar in real time. Change a pattern line and the drape updates as you watch.
The cloth simulation is the part that has to be right, and it is. Fabric is defined by real physical properties covering weight, stretch, bend, and friction, and a preset library holds measured values for common materials. A garment in denim and the same garment in silk behave differently in the simulation because the numbers behind them are different, not because someone adjusted a stiffness slider until it looked plausible.
The avatar is fully parametric with editable measurements across every dimension, plus poses and animation for seeing how a garment moves rather than only how it hangs. Fit analysis overlays tension, pressure, and clearance maps directly onto the garment, showing exactly where a pattern is pulling before anyone has cut anything.
The material and trim side covers texture mapping with tiling and repeat control, physically based material properties, topstitching, buttons, zips, pleats, and gathers, and hardware placed as real geometry rather than as a painted texture. Print placement is set on the three dimensional garment and mapped back onto the flat pattern for production.
Output serves both directions. Production ready pattern files export to the industry formats with grading and seam allowances, while the three dimensional garment exports as geometry with materials for rendering elsewhere, along with high quality renders produced inside the program.
Feature set
Two dimensional pattern and three dimensional drape shown together, with changes to one updating the other in real time.
Weight, stretch, bend, and friction from measured presets, so different materials genuinely behave differently.
Fully editable measurements plus poses and animation for judging movement as well as hang.
Tension, pressure, and clearance maps laid over the garment, showing where a pattern pulls before anything is cut.
Topstitching, buttons, zips, pleats, and gathers as real geometry rather than painted detail.
Pattern export to the industry formats with grading and seam allowances, plus garment geometry and renders.

Questions
Yes, from the common industry pattern formats, with grading and seam allowances preserved where the source file carries them.
They come from measured material properties, so they are a genuine starting point. Adjust them against a physical sample for final work.
Yes, exported as geometry with materials for any renderer, though the internal renderer handles most presentation needs.
Layers, trims, and high particle density all add cost. Drop the quality while working and raise it for the final drape.
