Overview

What this release is

ArcGIS Pro is the desktop application that the geographic information field is built around, and this build includes the extension set that is normally licensed piece by piece. Spatial analysis, 3D analysis, network analysis, geostatistics, image processing, and the data interoperability layer are all present and enabled from first launch.

The application handles 2D maps and 3D scenes in the same project, side by side, with the same data driving both. That sounds like a convenience until you are working with elevation, building footprints, or subsurface data, at which point being able to check a plan view and a perspective view of the same edit without exporting anywhere changes how the work is done.

The geoprocessing toolbox is enormous and, more importantly, it is scriptable. Tools chain into models visually, models convert to scripts, and scripts run against batches without supervision. Any analysis you perform once can be turned into something that repeats over a hundred datasets, which is the difference between a study and a production pipeline.

Data handling covers essentially every format in circulation, from the native geodatabases through the open exchange formats to raster imagery, point clouds, and the CAD drawings that arrive from engineering. Projection handling is automatic and correct, which is a low bar that a surprising number of tools fail to clear. Cartographic output is genuinely good, with proper layout control, symbol libraries, and export at print resolution.

This is the full installation including the extension modules, the offline help, the coordinate system database, and the sample data. It runs entirely without a portal connection once the licensing configuration has been applied.

Installation

How to install it

Turn off real time protection before extracting and leave it off until the licensing step completes.
Extract to a short path on a drive with at least 25 GB free.
Install the prerequisite runtime included in the package before running the main setup.
Run the main installer as administrator and include the extension modules and offline help.
Apply the included licensing configuration, then start the application and choose the single machine licence option rather than signing in.

Before you start

Are the extensions really all enabled?

Yes. The analysis, 3D, network, geostatistical, and image extensions are active from first launch in this configuration.

Does it need a portal or organisation account?

No. Choose the single machine licence option on the first launch screen and it runs entirely offline.

Can it open projects from the older desktop application?

It imports them, though some older map documents need a conversion pass and a few legacy tools have no direct equivalent.

Why does the first launch take several minutes?

It builds the local caches and indexes the coordinate system database. Later launches are much faster.
