Luxion KeyShot Pro

Rendering built for product visualisation, where materials are dragged onto geometry and the result is photographic within seconds, with the full material library and animation tools unlocked.

Version 2024.3 13.2.1.1 3.18 GB Windows 10 / 11 (64-bit) Updated 2 weeks ago

Overview

What this release is

Most rendering engines expect a scene to be set up before anything looks right. This one inverts that. Import a CAD model, drag a material onto a part, and the live view is already photographic, because lighting comes from an environment image rather than from placed lights that have to be balanced. For product designers who need a presentation image today rather than a lighting education, that difference is the entire selling point.

The material library is the reason the results look correct rather than merely shiny. Metals, plastics, glass, painted finishes, fabrics, and liquids are physically measured rather than approximated, so a brushed aluminium part looks like brushed aluminium without anyone tuning a roughness value. Materials can be layered, labelled with artwork, and given proper thin film and coating behaviour where the finish demands it.

CAD compatibility is unusually thorough. Native files from the major mechanical packages import with their assembly structure and part names intact, so materials are assigned to the right components rather than to an undifferentiated mesh. Live linking updates the geometry when the source model changes while keeping every material assignment, camera, and lighting setup in place, which matters enormously through a revision cycle.

The Pro feature set adds animation, scripting, and the configurator. Animation covers turntables, part explosions, and camera moves defined without keyframes for the simple cases. The configurator builds an interactive presentation where materials, parts, and options are switched by a viewer, and the scripting interface automates batch rendering of large product ranges without opening each scene by hand.

Feature set

What you get

Environment lighting

Image based lighting means the live view is photographic on import, before any light is placed by hand.

Measured materials

A large library of physically measured metals, plastics, glass, fabrics, and finishes that look right without manual tuning.

CAD import

Native files from the major mechanical packages arrive with assembly structure and part names preserved for correct assignment.

Live linking

Updated source geometry replaces the model while keeping materials, cameras, and lighting exactly where they were.

Animation

Turntables, exploded views, and camera moves defined without keyframing for the common product presentation cases.

Configurator

Interactive presentations where a viewer switches materials, parts, and options, exported for sharing without the application.

Changes in this build

What changed

  • Render speed improved on recent GPU hardware, particularly with heavy glass and liquid materials
  • Material library expanded with additional measured painted and coated finishes
  • CAD import updated for the current releases of the major mechanical packages
  • Configurator export gained smaller output files with the same interactivity
  • Fixed the denoiser that softened fine surface texture on close product shots

Installation

How to install it

  1. Disable real time protection before extracting, since the licence component is patched.
  2. Extract to a short path on a drive with at least 12 GB free.
  3. Run setup as administrator and install the material and environment libraries when offered.
  4. Do not configure a licence server when prompted, since this build does not query one.
  5. Enable GPU rendering under preferences after first launch, since the default falls back to the processor.

Hardware

System requirements

ProcessorIntel or AMD, 64-bit, eight cores or more for CPU rendering
Memory16 GB minimum, 32 GB for large assemblies with high resolution textures
Graphics8 GB VRAM recommended for GPU rendering, ray tracing capable card strongly preferred
Storage15 GB free space for the application and libraries
Display1920 x 1080, colour calibrated panel recommended
SystemWindows 10 version 22H2 or Windows 11

Questions

Before you start

Are the material and environment libraries included?

Yes. Both ship inside the package rather than streaming from a cloud library on first use.

Does it render on the GPU or the processor?

Either. GPU rendering is dramatically faster on a ray tracing capable card, and the setting is under preferences.

Which CAD formats import natively?

The major mechanical formats plus the standard neutral ones, with assembly structure preserved in both cases.

Is the configurator included at this level?

Yes. The Pro feature set includes animation, scripting, and the interactive configurator export.
