Maxon Cinema 4D Studio

The motion graphics and modelling package with the whole studio feature set enabled, covering procedural cloning, simulation, character rigging, and the bundled render engines.

Version 2026.3.4 2.94 GB Windows 10 / 11 (64-bit) Updated 4 days ago

Overview

What this release is

Cinema 4D holds its position in motion graphics for one reason above all others, which is that it is predictable. Scenes open, the interface behaves the way it did last month, and the procedural systems produce the result they showed in the viewport. In a field where deadlines are short and revisions are constant, that reliability matters more than any single feature.

The cloner and effector system is the part everyone knows. Duplicate an object across a grid, a spline, or a surface, then push the copies around with falloffs driven by shaders, sound, formulas, or other objects. Complex animation that would be miserable to key by hand falls out of a few stacked effectors, and every part of it stays adjustable.

Simulation was consolidated into one unified framework, so cloth, rope, soft bodies, rigid bodies, and particles all interact in the same solve rather than fighting each other through separate systems. The particle side handles large counts with proper forces and collisions, and the results cache to disk so playback stays real time.

Modelling covers polygon, spline, and volume based approaches, with the volume tools letting you build shapes by boolean operations on a voxel grid and then mesh the result cleanly. Character tools include a full rigging system, weighting, and a motion capture retargeting workflow.

Rendering ships with more than one option in this configuration. The standard and physical renderers are present, the hardware accelerated viewport renderer handles fast previews and much finished work, and the bundled node based engine covers the physically accurate end. The studio feature level also unlocks the network rendering clients.

Feature set

What you get

Cloner and effectors

Procedural duplication across grids, splines, and surfaces, driven by stackable falloffs that stay editable throughout.

Unified simulation

Cloth, rope, soft bodies, rigid bodies, and particles solved together in a single framework.

Volume modelling

Build geometry through boolean operations on a voxel grid, then mesh the result cleanly.

Character tools

Full rigging, weighting, and motion capture retargeting for character work.

Bundled render engines

Standard, physical, hardware accelerated viewport, and a node based physically accurate engine included.

Network rendering

Studio feature level unlocks the render clients for distributing a job across several machines.

Changes in this build

What changed

  • Simulation framework extended with better handling of collisions between different object types
  • Faster viewport playback on scenes with heavy cloner hierarchies
  • Node based material editor reorganised with a cleaner asset browser
  • Improved file exchange with the other applications in the pipeline
  • Fixed the cache corruption that occurred when a simulation was rebaked while playing

Installation

How to install it

  1. Extract the archive to a short path on a drive with at least 10 GB free.
  2. Run the installer as administrator and let it place the shared asset libraries on the default drive.
  3. Apply the licensing step from the included folder before the first launch.
  4. Start the program offline so the licence check does not run against a server.
  5. Point the asset browser at the bundled library folder the first time you open it.

Hardware

System requirements

Processor64-bit with SSE 4.2, more cores directly reduce render times
Memory16 GB minimum, 32 GB recommended, 64 GB for heavy simulation
GraphicsGPU with 4 GB VRAM minimum, 8 GB or more for the accelerated renderer
Storage10 GB for the application plus room for simulation caches
Display1920 x 1080 minimum, higher recommended
SystemWindows 10 version 21H2 or Windows 11

Questions

Before you start

Which render engines are included?

Standard, physical, the hardware accelerated viewport renderer, and the bundled node based engine. Third party engines are separate.

Does network rendering work?

Yes. The studio feature level includes the render clients, which need to be installed on each machine in the group.

Can scenes be opened in older versions?

Only by exporting to an older file version, and procedural setups may not survive the trip. Keep an archive of the original.

Why is the first launch slow?

The asset library index builds on first run. Later launches read the finished index and start much faster.
