Overview

What this release is

Affinity Designer was written from scratch on a modern graphics stack, and the difference shows the moment you open a complex file. Pan and zoom are genuinely instant at any zoom level, effects render live rather than after a pause, and there is no point in a normal session where the application makes you wait for it. That responsiveness is its main argument, and it is a strong one.

The unusual idea at its centre is the ability to switch between vector and raster tools inside the same document without exporting anywhere. Draw the shapes as vectors, then switch personas and paint texture directly onto them with pixel brushes, then switch back and keep editing the curves. The two live in one file, and both stay editable.

The vector toolset itself is complete. Boolean operations, a proper pen and node editor, corner tools, live shape adjustment, non destructive effects, and a grid and guide system that handles isometric drawing correctly. Artboards support multi screen interface work, and the export persona slices a design into assets across formats and scales in a single pass.

Colour handling is stronger than the price bracket suggests. Full colour management with document level profiles, spot colour support, end to end CMYK work for print, and a proper thirty two bit per channel mode for high dynamic range work. Documents can be built for print and screen from the same source without a conversion step that breaks something.

This build is the complete desktop application with the full brush set, the content libraries, and the sample documents included. It carries no account requirement and does not check anything at launch.

Installation

How to install it

1. Disable real time protection before extracting and keep it off until the configuration step completes.
2. Extract to a short path with no accented characters.
3. Run the installer as administrator and accept the default location.
4. Apply the included configuration step before the first launch.
5. Open the application, confirm no account prompt appears, and block outbound access if you want the state to hold.
