Autodesk AutoCAD 2027
The drafting application that the DWG format was built around.
The high end product development suite covering modelling, simulation, and manufacturing in one environment, installed as a standalone configuration with no licence server to configure.
Overview
NX sits at the top of the mechanical design market alongside a very small number of competitors, and the reason is breadth. Modelling, assembly management, drafting, simulation, and toolpath generation live inside one application with one data model, so a change to a part propagates through the analysis and the machining program without an export step in between.
The modelling side is convergent, meaning solid, surface, and mesh geometry can coexist in the same body. That matters enormously when scan data or a topology optimisation result has to be blended into a designed part, a workflow that forces most other packages into an awkward conversion.
Simulation is not a bolted on module here. Structural, thermal, flow, and motion analysis all read the design geometry directly, and results can drive geometry changes back into the model. For teams doing iterative design work this removes most of the file shuffling that eats the schedule.
The manufacturing side generates toolpaths for anything from three axis milling to complex multi axis machining and additive processes, with post processors for the common controllers included. This package installs the full configuration offline and does not look for a licence manager on the network.
Feature set
Solid, surface, and mesh geometry in one body, so scan data and optimisation results blend into designed parts.
Large assemblies load with configurable detail levels rather than pulling every component into memory at once.
Structural, thermal, flow, and motion analysis reading the design geometry directly with no export.
Toolpath generation from three axis milling through complex multi axis work, with common post processors included.
Full drawing production with model based definition and tolerance annotation carried from the solid.
Configured to run without a network licence manager, which is the usual obstacle on a personal machine.
