Overview

What this release is

The hardware requirements Windows 11 shipped with excluded an enormous number of machines that run it perfectly well. This image removes those checks at the setup stage, so processors from before the arbitrary cutoff, boards without a trusted platform module, and machines running in legacy boot mode all install without the compatibility screen appearing at all.

Everything else about the operating system is the stock Professional edition on the current servicing branch. Hyper-V, BitLocker, the Remote Desktop host, group policy, and the full Professional feature list are all present. Windows Update works normally afterwards, including on machines whose hardware would ordinarily be excluded from feature updates.

The Office 2019 Professional Plus suite is applied from the same image, giving you Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, Access, Publisher, and OneNote without a second installer and without the click to run downloader pulling several gigabytes over your connection during setup.

Both halves come out of setup in a licensed state, so the desktop that appears on first boot is a finished system rather than one waiting for two more steps. The account creation screen accepts a local account offline, which is the part that saves the most time and irritation.

This is a full clean install image rather than an upgrade package, so it can also be used to rebuild a machine that already runs Windows 11 without carrying forward whatever was wrong with it.

Installation

How to install it

Write the image to a USB stick of 16 GB or larger with a tool that handles both UEFI and legacy boot.
Boot from the stick and choose Custom to control the partition layout.
Stay offline through the whole of setup, which skips the network requirement at the account screen.
Give the machine several minutes on the first desktop while the Office component finishes configuring itself.
Check the activation state in system settings before installing anything else.

Before you start

Does it really install without a platform module?

Yes. The check is removed in the installer itself rather than worked around during setup with a registry edit.

Will feature updates still install?

Cumulative updates install normally. Large feature updates may need to be applied from a newer image on unsupported hardware.

Which Office applications are in it?

Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, Access, Publisher, and OneNote in the Professional Plus configuration.

Can it upgrade an existing Windows 10 install?

It can, by running setup from inside Windows, though a clean install on older hardware gives noticeably better results.
