Overview

What this release is

Backupper covers the whole range of things people mean when they say backup, which is unusual. It images entire disks, backs up individual folders on a schedule, clones one drive onto another including the boot configuration, and synchronises directories between locations, all from the same interface.

Disk imaging is the core of it. A full image captures everything including the boot sector and the recovery partition, incremental images afterwards capture only what changed, and the whole chain can be mounted as a drive letter to pull a single file out without restoring anything. Restore can go back to the same hardware or to a completely different machine, where the universal restore step swaps the storage drivers so the restored system actually boots.

Cloning is the part most people use once and remember forever. Moving a system from a mechanical disk to a solid state drive is a single operation, with the partition layout adjusted for the new size and the boot configuration rewritten so the machine starts from the new drive without any manual repair.

The bootable rescue environment is included as a separate image and this is the piece that turns the product from useful into essential. If Windows will not start, you boot the rescue media, point it at your backup location, and restore. Without that media a disk image is a file you cannot reach at the moment you need it.

This build is at the technician feature level, which lifts the machine count entirely, adds command line control for scripted backup jobs, includes the deployment tool for pushing an image to many machines over the network, and enables the portable version that runs from a stick without installation.

Installation

How to install it

Extract the archive to a short path.
Run the setup executable as administrator and complete the installation without launching the program.
Apply the included licensing step so the technician feature level is active before the first run.
Create the bootable rescue media immediately from the tools menu. Doing it later is how people end up without it.
Run one full system image before configuring any schedule, so there is a baseline to build incrementals on.
