What this release is

WinRAR is the tool everything else in this catalogue is packed with, which makes it the sensible first installation on a fresh machine. It handles RAR and ZIP natively and reads essentially every other archive format in circulation, including the multi-part sets that large downloads arrive in.

The features that keep it in use are unglamorous. Recovery records let a partially corrupted archive be repaired rather than re-downloaded. Solid compression squeezes collections of similar files far tighter than the alternatives. Multi-part splitting produces volumes sized for whatever the destination requires, and the whole set extracts from the first part.

Version 7 brought real improvements after a long quiet period. Compression is faster on multi-core processors, very large archives are handled without the memory ceiling of the older engine, and the Windows integration has been tidied to work properly with the modern context menu.

This build carries the licence file, so the nag window that appeared after the trial period never shows up. Nothing else about the program is modified.

Installation

How to install it

Extract the archive with the archiver you already have, or with the built-in Windows ZIP handler.
Run the setup executable as administrator.
Choose which file associations you want on the setup screen.
Copy the included licence file into the installation folder.
Open the program and confirm the title bar no longer shows an evaluation notice.

Does the reminder window come back?

No. The licence file removes it permanently and survives version updates within the same major release.

Can it repair any damaged archive?

Only those created with a recovery record. Without one, repair is limited to header reconstruction.

Should the ZIP association be handed over?

Optional. Windows handles ZIP natively, but the program is faster on large ones.

What is solid compression best for?

Many small similar files. It is a poor choice when you need to extract single files from a large archive quickly.
