AOMEI Partition Assistant

A disk and partition manager that resizes, moves, merges, and migrates volumes without destroying what is on them, in the top editions with the bootable rescue media included for offline repair.

Version 10.12 58.7 MB Windows 7 / 8 / 10 / 11 Updated 3 days ago

Overview

What this release is

Partition Assistant does the disk surgery that Windows built-in disk management refuses to attempt. It resizes a volume without losing the data on it, moves a partition along the disk, merges two partitions into one, and splits a full drive into a sensible layout, all as operations that preserve the files rather than wiping and starting over.

The migration tool is the reason many people install it. Moving a working system from a small drive to a larger SSD, including the boot configuration, is a task that goes wrong easily by hand and is handled here as a guided operation that clones the system across and leaves it bootable. For an upgrade from a spinning disk to solid state, this alone is worth the installation.

The bundled rescue media covers the cases where the machine will not boot. The editions in this build include the builder that writes a bootable environment to a USB stick, from which the same operations can be run against a system that is offline, which is exactly what is needed to repair a broken boot partition or resize the system drive itself.

This build enables the top edition features rather than the free subset, which unlocks the dynamic disk operations, the command line interface, the sector level clone, and the unlimited use across machines that the professional and technician tiers provide. The licensing step is applied before the program is opened.

Feature set

What you get

Resize without loss

Shrinks, extends, and moves partitions while preserving the data on them, which disk management cannot do.

System migration

Clones a working system to a larger drive, including the boot configuration, and leaves it bootable.

Merge and split

Combines two partitions into one or splits a full drive into a workable layout as a single operation.

Bootable rescue media

Builds a USB environment for running the same operations against a system that will not start.

Disk clone

Sector level and intelligent clone options for duplicating a whole disk to another.

Top edition unlocked

Dynamic disk operations, command line, and unlimited cross machine use enabled from first launch.

Changes in this build

What changed

  • Faster system migration on large NVMe target drives
  • Improved handling of GPT to MBR conversion without data loss
  • Bootable media builder updated for recent USB controller chipsets
  • Added alignment optimisation during clone to solid state drives
  • Fixed the resize failure on volumes with a heavily fragmented page file

Installation

How to install it

  1. Disable real time protection before extracting the archive.
  2. Extract to a short path and run the setup executable as administrator.
  3. Complete the installation but do not start any disk operation yet.
  4. Apply the included licensing step so the top edition features are enabled.
  5. Back up anything critical before the first operation, since disk edits carry inherent risk.

Questions

Before you start

Can it move Windows to a new SSD?

Yes. The migration tool clones the system across, keeps the boot configuration, and leaves the new drive bootable.

Is a resize safe for the data?

The operations are designed to preserve data, but any disk edit carries risk. Back up anything important first.

What is the bootable media for?

Running operations against a system that will not start, such as repairing or resizing the system partition itself.

Which edition features are enabled?

The top tier, which unlocks dynamic disk operations, the command line, and unlimited use across machines.
