Overview

What this release is

Data Recovery Wizard is the program you install after something has already gone wrong, and it is built to make that moment recoverable rather than final. An emptied recycle bin, a drive formatted by accident, a memory card that reports itself as empty, a partition that has vanished: each of these usually leaves the underlying data intact for a while, and this tool is designed to find and rebuild it before it is overwritten.

It works in two passes. A quick scan reads the file tables and recovers what is still indexed, which handles simple deletions almost instantly. When that is not enough, the deep scan reads the raw drive surface and reconstructs files by their signatures, recovering data even after a format or a corrupted table has erased the index that pointed to it.

The results are filterable by type, so photographs, documents, video, and archives can be listed separately, and a preview confirms a file is intact before it is recovered. Recovering to a different drive than the one being scanned is the standard practice the program encourages, since writing to the damaged drive risks overwriting what is still there.

The bundled WinPE build is the part that matters when a drive will not boot at all. It boots the machine from external media into the recovery tool directly, so files can be pulled from a system that Windows itself can no longer start.

Installation

How to install it

Install the tool to a different drive than the one you need to recover from.
Disable real time protection and extract the archive to a short path.
Run setup as administrator and complete the installation.
Apply the included registration step before scanning.
For a drive that will not boot, write the WinPE build to a USB stick from another machine and boot from it.
