Overview

What this release is

Drives rarely fail without warning, they fail after weeks of quietly reporting problems that nobody was reading. This program reads those reports continuously, translates the raw attribute values into a health percentage that means something, and tells you plainly when a drive has started to degrade rather than burying it in a table of hexadecimal counters.

It covers mechanical drives, solid state drives, and the current NVMe generation, including the wear indicators specific to each. For a solid state drive the estimated remaining lifetime based on actual write volume is far more useful than a generic health figure, and the program tracks total written data over its entire monitoring history.

The professional tier adds the parts that make monitoring worth doing. Alerts by several methods when a threshold is crossed, automatic backup triggering when a drive starts to fail, command execution on an alert, and detailed reporting that can be exported for a machine that is not yours to fix.

The surface test tools are the other half. Read tests, write tests, and repair passes that reallocate weak sectors before they turn into unreadable ones, all with a live map of the drive so the pattern of damage is visible rather than statistical.

Installation

How to install it

Extract the archive to any convenient folder.
Run setup as administrator so the service can read drive attributes directly.

Before you start

Can it prevent a drive from failing?

No. It warns early enough that the data can be moved, which is the point.

Does it read drives behind a RAID controller?

Many of them, depending on the controller. The supported list is in the help file.

Why does health drop after a surface test?

The test found weak sectors the drive had not reported yet. The condition existed beforehand.

Is the background service heavy?

No. It polls infrequently and uses very little memory while idle.
