Overview

What this release is

This is the tool people reach for when they want the licensing question settled without installing anything. It is a batch script with a small helper binary, it runs, it does its work, and it exits. There is no interface to learn, no service registered, and no tray icon watching the machine afterwards.

Both modes are available from the same menu. The manual mode applies licensing once and lets you get on with your day. The automatic mode installs a small renewal task so the state refreshes on schedule without any further attention, which is the sensible choice on a machine that will be used long term.

Coverage is broad. Every Windows edition from the version 7 era through the current release, every Office suite from the 2010 generation onwards, and the volume channel variants of each. Retail installations can be converted to the volume channel first, which is handled by the same script rather than by a separate tool.

The diagnostic output is what separates it from the many cruder tools that do something similar. Before doing anything it reports exactly what it found: the edition, the current state, the installed keys, and the channel. If something goes wrong afterwards, the log tells you where, rather than leaving you to guess.

Installation

How to install it

Extract the archive to a folder outside the system directories.
Add that folder to your antivirus exclusions, since licensing scripts are flagged by category rather than by behaviour.
Right click the batch file and run it as administrator.
Read the state summary the script prints before choosing anything from the menu.
Pick the automatic mode if the machine is a permanent install, or the manual mode for a one time run.

Before you start

Does it leave anything running?

Only the renewal task, and only if you choose the automatic mode. The manual mode leaves nothing behind at all.

Why does antivirus flag it?

Licensing tools are flagged as a category. Exclude the folder before extracting or the script will be removed mid run.

Does it work on Office installed from the click to run channel?

Yes, including converting a retail installation to the volume channel as part of the same run.

What if it reports the licensing service is unavailable?

A policy or another tool has disabled it. Re-enable the service, then run the script again.
