Kutools for Excel

An add-in that puts several hundred spreadsheet operations behind single buttons, covering the tedious tasks that otherwise mean a formula, a macro, or twenty minutes of manual work.

Version 30.60 68.2 MB Windows 7 / 8 / 10 / 11 (64-bit) Updated 4 days ago

Overview

What this release is

Kutools is a collection of roughly three hundred operations that the spreadsheet application can technically do already, if you are prepared to write the formula, record the macro, or do it by hand. Each one becomes a button with a dialogue box. Individually none of them is remarkable. Collectively they remove a substantial share of the tedious work from a spreadsheet job.

The range and cell tools cover the operations everyone has needed and none of which are built in. Combine several columns into one keeping the separators, split one column into many by any rule, transpose a range in place, convert between ranges and tables, fill blank cells with the value above them, and swap two ranges without a temporary staging area.

Worksheet and workbook management is the second large group. Split one sheet into many by a column value, merge many workbooks into one, compare two ranges and mark the differences, copy a formatting layout across every sheet at once, and rename or reorder sheets in bulk. Anyone who has manually split a report by region will understand immediately why this is worth having.

The formula group deserves its own mention. Several hundred named formulas for the calculations that come up repeatedly, from counting by colour and summing visible cells to date and text manipulations that would otherwise take a nested expression nobody wants to maintain. There is also a formula helper that builds the expression from a dialogue rather than from memory.

The remaining tools cover conversion, cleanup, and navigation: convert numbers stored as text in bulk, remove every space and non printing character, convert dates between formats, delete blank rows and columns across a workbook, and a navigation panel that lists sheets, workbooks, columns, and named ranges in a sidebar for jumping around a large model quickly.

Questions

Before you start

Which spreadsheet versions are supported?

The releases from 2016 onward and the current subscription builds, in both perpetual and subscription form.

Do the tools change my files permanently?

They perform normal spreadsheet operations, so the usual undo applies to most of them. Bulk operations across a workbook are worth testing on a copy first.

Does it slow the application down?

Barely. It adds ribbon tabs and loads its tools on demand rather than at startup.

Can individual tool groups be hidden?

Yes. The ribbon layout is configurable, so unused groups can be removed from view.
