Overview

What this release is

Office 2013 is a suite people keep installed for continuity rather than for anything new. It runs on hardware that predates most of what is on this site, it opens the documents that a long running office was built on without any conversion surprises, and it behaves exactly as it did the day it was set up. On some desks that predictability is worth more than any feature added since.

The Professional Plus configuration is the full business set: Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, Access, Publisher, OneNote, and Lync. Access and Publisher in particular are the reason organisations chose this edition, since databases and layout documents built in them do not open cleanly anywhere else.

This was the release that introduced the flatter interface and the first real touch handling, and it carries the Excel flash fill feature that many spreadsheets still rely on. Outlook keeps the classic profile and PST handling from before the later redesigns, which matters for on-premises and archived mail.

Both 32-bit and 64-bit builds are included and the suite installs entirely from the local payload. Choose 64-bit unless a legacy add-in requires the 32-bit build, which remains common in older finance and engineering setups.

Installation

How to install it

Remove any existing Office installation, including preinstalled trials.
Extract the archive and run the front end as administrator.
Choose your architecture and deselect any applications you will not use.
Let the installer finish without opening any application midway.
Run the included activation step and confirm the licence state in the account panel of Word.
