Microsoft Office 2016 Professional Plus

The 2016 perpetual office suite for machines that need a stable, undemanding productivity set, in both architectures and with the complete Professional Plus application list and no subscription layer.

Version 16.0.5478.1000 2.74 GB Windows 10 / 11 (32-bit and 64-bit) Updated 1 week ago

Overview

What this release is

Office 2016 is the release people reach for when a machine is older, when compatibility with a long standing document set matters more than new features, or when a workflow was built years ago and simply needs to keep running. It asks very little of the hardware and it never changes underneath the user, which on some desks is the most valuable feature a suite can have.

The Professional Plus configuration includes Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, Access, Publisher, OneNote, and Skype for Business. This is the full business set rather than the trimmed Home and Student list, which is the reason Access and Publisher are present at all.

Excel in this version carries the function set that most established spreadsheets were written against, along with Power Query and PowerPivot for anyone pulling data in from outside sources. Outlook keeps the classic profile and PST handling that later redesigns moved away from, which matters for on-premises mail servers and archived mailboxes.

The package contains both 32-bit and 64-bit builds and installs entirely from the local payload with nothing streamed from a Microsoft server. Choose 64-bit unless a legacy add-in specifically requires the 32-bit build.

Feature set

What you get

Perpetual licensing

No renewal, no subscription state, and no expiry countdown anywhere in the interface.

Complete application set

Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, Access, Publisher, OneNote, and Skype for Business in one installation.

Light on hardware

Runs comfortably on older machines that struggle with newer releases.

Classic Outlook

Traditional profile and PST handling with offline caching and rules that survive a rebuild.

Both architectures

32-bit and 64-bit installers in one package for legacy add-in compatibility.

Offline installation

The whole suite installs from the local package with no component fetched from a server.

Changes in this build

What changed

  • Repackaged with the current cumulative update set rolled in
  • Fixed the setup failure when a newer Click-to-Run installation was already present
  • Added a language selector to the front end instead of separate downloads
  • Improved detection of existing Office installations before setup begins
  • Reduced package size by removing duplicate proofing tool payloads

Installation

How to install it

  1. Remove any existing Office installation, including trials that shipped with the machine.
  2. Extract the archive and run the front end as administrator.
  3. Choose your architecture, then deselect any applications you will not use to save space.
  4. Let the installer finish without opening any application in the middle of the process.
  5. Run the included activation step, then open Word and confirm the account panel reports a licensed product.

Questions

Before you start

Can it be installed next to a newer Office version?

Not reliably. Click-to-Run installations conflict and the newer one usually takes over.

Does Outlook connect to modern mail providers?

Yes, over IMAP and Exchange. Providers requiring modern authentication may need an app password.

Which architecture should be chosen?

64-bit unless a specific add-in requires otherwise. Large spreadsheets in particular benefit.

Do updates still install?

Security updates apply normally. Feature updates do not, since this is a perpetual release.
