MiniTool Partition Wizard Pro Ultimate

Resizes, moves, merges, and converts partitions without losing what is on them, with the bootable media builder and data recovery tools of the top tier included.

Version 12.8 96 MB Windows 7 / 8 / 10 / 11 (64-bit) Updated 4 days ago

Overview

What this release is

The built in Windows disk management tool can create and delete partitions and not much else. It cannot move one, cannot merge two, and refuses to shrink a volume past the first immovable file it encounters. This program does all of it, on live volumes including the system partition, with the operation queued and applied on the next restart when it has to be.

The migration feature is the one most people install it for. Copy an entire system to a new drive, usually a larger or faster one, and boot from it afterwards without reinstalling anything. The partition layout is rebuilt to suit the destination size and the boot configuration is corrected automatically, which is the step that goes wrong when this is attempted manually.

Conversion operations are non destructive where they can be. Converting between the two partition table types without deleting anything, switching a file system between the common formats, and changing a dynamic disk back to a basic one are all handled in place rather than requiring a backup and restore cycle.

The top tier adds the bootable media builder and the recovery tools. The media builder produces a rescue environment that runs the same program outside Windows, which is what you need when the system partition itself is the problem, and the recovery side scans for lost partitions and deleted files.

Feature set

What you get

Resize and move

Adjust partitions on live volumes, including the system partition, with operations queued and applied safely.

System migration

Copy an entire installation to another drive and boot from it without reinstalling.

Non destructive conversion

Switch between partition table types and file systems without deleting what is on the volume.

Bootable media

Builds a rescue environment that runs the same tools outside Windows.

Partition recovery

Scans for partitions lost to a corrupted table and rebuilds the entries.

Surface and benchmark

Sector level testing and drive speed measurement built into the same program.

Changes in this build

What changed

  • Faster cloning on NVMe to NVMe transfers
  • Improved handling of drives with many small partitions
  • Bootable media builder updated to a current recovery environment
  • Added support for larger sector sizes on recent drives
  • Fixed the boot configuration correction after migrating to a smaller destination drive

Installation

How to install it

  1. Extract the archive to any convenient folder.
  2. Run setup as administrator and complete the short installation.
  3. Apply the included licensing step before the first operation.
  4. Build the bootable rescue media before you need it rather than after something breaks.
  5. Back up anything important before resizing or moving a system partition. The operation is safe but power loss is not.

Questions

Before you start

Can the system partition be resized while Windows is running?

The operation is queued and applied during a restart in the pre boot environment.

Will a migrated drive boot straight away?

Usually yes. If it does not, set the new drive first in the boot order before assuming the copy failed.

Is conversion between partition table types really non destructive?

In place conversion keeps the data, but take a backup first regardless. Power loss during the operation is not recoverable.

Does the rescue media need a separate download?

No. The builder is part of this package and creates the media locally.
