The main reason people move to PDF-XChange is speed. It opens large scanned documents in the time other viewers take to draw a splash screen, and scrolling through a two thousand page technical manual stays smooth rather than pausing every few pages to render. The Plus edition adds the parts that turn a viewer into a production tool. Forms can be built from scratch with proper field logic, calculations, and validation, or generated automatically from a scanned layout that already has lines and boxes on it. The result is a real interactive form rather than a flat page with text boxes floating over it.

OCR is handled by the bundled engine and runs entirely on the machine. Scanned pages become searchable while keeping the original image intact underneath, which means the visual fidelity of an archive scan is preserved and the text layer sits invisibly behind it. Installation

How to install it

Disable real time protection while extracting, since the licence component is repacked during setup.
Extract to a short path and run the installer as administrator.
Choose the custom install if you do not want the browser plugin or the Office toolbar integration.
Leave the virtual printer component selected unless you already have a preferred PDF printer installed.
Skip any account or activation prompt on first launch. The Plus features are already available in the menus.

Before you start

Does saved output carry a watermark?

No. The Plus feature set is fully unlocked, so pages saved after editing come out clean.

Can it replace the reader from Adobe entirely?

For viewing, annotating, form filling, and editing yes. A small number of enterprise rights managed documents still need the original reader.

Is OCR done on the machine or in the cloud?

Entirely on the machine. The recognition engine and language packs are part of the install.

How well does it handle very large files?

This is its strongest area. Documents in the thousands of pages open in seconds and stay responsive while scrolling.
