Overview

What this release is

PowerISO handles disc images the way an archiver handles archives. It opens an ISO and lets files be added, removed, or extracted without unpacking the whole thing, it creates a new image from a folder or a disc, and it converts between the many image formats that different tools produce. For anyone who deals with disc images regularly, it replaces a handful of separate single purpose tools with one.

The mounting feature is the part used most often. It creates virtual drives and mounts an image to one, so the contents appear as a disc in the machine without anything being burned, which is exactly what is needed to install from an ISO or read a disc image someone has sent. Several images can be mounted to several virtual drives at once.

Writing is the other half. It burns an image to a physical disc when one is needed, and more usefully it writes a bootable image to a USB stick, correctly handling the boot configuration so the stick actually starts a machine rather than just holding the files. That covers the common job of turning an operating system ISO into installation media.

This build runs as the registered edition, which removes the file size limit the trial imposes on editing and creating images and unlocks the full format support. It installs quickly and runs offline.

Installation

How to install it

Extract the archive to any convenient location.
Run the setup executable as administrator so the virtual drive component can install.
Complete the installation and reboot if it asks, to load the virtual drive driver.
Apply the included registration step to remove the trial size limit.
Open the program and confirm an image mounts to a virtual drive correctly.
