Spotify for Windows

The desktop music client in a modified build where the advertisement modules are stripped out, the skip counter is removed, and the quality selector is unlocked to the highest tier the stream will serve.

Version 1.2.68.1054 112 MB Windows 10 / 11 (64-bit) Updated 1 day ago

Overview

What this release is

The desktop client is the version worth using if music is on in the background all day. The library view is faster than the web player, the queue is easier to manage, playback keys on a keyboard work without a browser tab in focus, and the local file section still lets you fold your own collection into the same interface as the streaming catalogue.

This build removes the interruptions. The advertisement modules are stripped from the package rather than blocked at the network level, which means no silent gaps where a spot used to sit and no repeated banner reloads in the sidebar. Track skipping is unlimited and the seek bar works on every track rather than only inside a playlist.

Audio quality is set to the highest tier the stream will serve, and the equaliser, crossfade, gapless playback, and normalisation controls are all exposed instead of being hidden behind a tier check. Connect to other devices on the same network still works normally for anyone using speakers or a console as an output.

Because the modification lives in the client rather than in a proxy, the update mechanism has been disabled to keep the change in place. A newer build replaces the modification, so the packaged version is the one to keep until a fresh release is posted here.

Feature set

What you get

No advertisement modules

The banner and audio spot components are removed from the package, so playback runs continuously.

Unlimited skipping

The skip counter is gone and seeking works on every track rather than only inside a curated list.

Quality selector

Highest available stream tier exposed in settings along with normalisation and gapless playback.

Local files

Fold your own collection into the same library view and mix local tracks into streaming playlists.

Device connect

Hand playback to speakers, consoles, and phones on the same network without leaving the desktop window.

Update lock

The self updater is disabled so the modification is not overwritten the next time a release is pushed.

Changes in this build

What changed

  • Rebased on the current desktop client release
  • Lyrics panel restored after the previous build broke it
  • Sidebar rendering fixed on displays running fractional scaling
  • Reduced memory use during long uninterrupted sessions
  • Fixed the crash on resume from sleep when an output device had been removed

Installation

How to install it

  1. Uninstall any existing client and remove its data folder from the local application data directory.
  2. Extract the archive and run the installer as administrator.
  3. Do not allow the program to update itself, and leave the updater disabled in the settings panel.
  4. Sign in with an existing account on first launch, since the client still needs an identity to reach the catalogue.
  5. Set the audio quality manually in settings, because the default remains the middle tier on a fresh profile.

Questions

Before you start

Does an account still have to be used?

Yes. The client authenticates against an account to reach the catalogue. Only the advertisement and restriction components are removed.

Will it update itself and lose the changes?

Not if the updater stays disabled. If it slips through, reinstall from this package.

Is offline listening available?

Downloaded playlists work in the client, subject to the same local cache behaviour as the standard build.

Does the mobile application change?

No. This is the Windows desktop client only and has no effect on any other device.
