Overview

What this release is

TeamViewer became the default remote support tool for one reason: it connects when everything else needs a network engineer first. There is no port forwarding, no firewall rule, and no address to look up. Both ends run the program, one reads out an identifier, and the session opens. On a support call with someone who does not know what a router is, that matters more than any feature list.

The session itself is fully interactive. Screen, keyboard, and mouse pass through with low enough latency that ordinary work is comfortable, multiple monitors on the remote machine are handled properly with either a combined view or one at a time, and the display quality scales automatically against the available bandwidth. Clipboard content passes in both directions.

File transfer runs alongside the session rather than interrupting it, through a two panel browser that queues transfers in both directions with resume on a dropped connection. There is also a transfer only mode that moves files between machines without opening a desktop session at all, which is faster when that is all you need.

Unattended access is the feature that turns this from a support tool into infrastructure. A machine configured for it can be reached without anyone present, which covers home machines, servers, and equipment in another building. Wake on network support brings a sleeping machine up before the session starts.

The session tools cover the practical side of support work: a meeting mode for several participants, session recording for documenting what was done, a whiteboard for pointing at things, remote printing that sends a document to your local printer, and a system information panel that saves asking the user to find things themselves.

Installation

How to install it

Turn off real time protection before extracting and keep it off through the configuration step.
Extract the archive to a short path.
Run the setup executable as administrator and choose the installation type, either full install or run once.
Apply the included configuration step before the first launch.
Open the program and note the identifier shown on the main panel, which is what the other end will need.

Before you start

Does the remote machine need the same version?

Ideally yes. Mixed versions usually connect but some session features will be unavailable.

Can it reach a machine that is asleep?

Yes, if wake on network is enabled on the remote hardware and the machine is configured for unattended access.

Does it work over a mobile connection?

It does. The quality scales down automatically as the available bandwidth drops.

Is the connection direct or relayed?

Direct when the network allows it, relayed when it does not. The switch happens automatically without any configuration.
