WinRAR

The standard build of the archiver that nearly everything on this site is packed inside, handling RAR and ZIP natively and reading every other archive format worth naming, licensed so the reminder never returns.

Version 7.23 3.9 MB Windows 7 / 8 / 10 / 11 (32-bit and 64-bit) Updated 3 days ago

Overview

What this release is

WinRAR is the first thing worth installing on a fresh machine, because it is the tool that opens everything else. It handles RAR and ZIP natively, reads essentially every other archive format in circulation, and extracts the multi-part sets that large downloads arrive split into, all from a context menu entry that becomes second nature within a day.

The features people actually rely on are unglamorous. Recovery records repair a partially corrupted archive rather than forcing a fresh download. Solid compression squeezes collections of similar files far tighter than the alternatives. Multi-part splitting produces volumes sized for whatever the destination needs, and the whole set unpacks from the first part.

Version 7 brought real improvements after a long quiet stretch. Compression is faster on multi-core processors, very large archives no longer hit the memory ceiling of the older engine, and the shell integration works properly with the modern Windows context menu rather than fighting it.

This is the standard configuration with the licence applied, so the reminder window that appeared after the trial period never shows. Both 32-bit and 64-bit builds are included, and nothing else about the program is modified.

Feature set

What you get

Recovery records

Repairs a damaged archive from redundancy stored inside it rather than needing a fresh download.

Multi-part volumes

Splits an archive into sized volumes that extract as one set from the first part.

Format coverage

Reads ZIP, 7Z, TAR, ISO, CAB, ARJ, LZH and more, and writes RAR and ZIP.

Shell integration

Proper context menu entries with drag and drop extraction on modern Windows.

No reminder window

Licensed configuration with the trial notice removed entirely.

Questions

Before you start

Does the reminder window come back?

No. The licence file removes it permanently and survives updates within the same major release.

Can it repair any damaged archive?

Only those created with a recovery record. Without one, repair is limited to header reconstruction.

Should the ZIP association be handed over?

Optional. Windows handles ZIP natively, but the program is faster on large ones.

What is solid compression best for?

Many small similar files. It is a poor choice when single files must be pulled from a large archive quickly.
