Overview

What this release is

Recoverit is the tool for the moment after something has gone wrong. A file deleted and emptied from the recycle bin, a drive formatted by accident, a card that reports itself empty, or a partition that has vanished are all cases where the data is usually still physically present even though the system no longer lists it, and this scans the drive to find it and bring it back. The sooner it is run after the loss, the better the odds.

It works in two passes. The quick scan reads the file system for recently deleted entries and recovers them fast, which handles the common case of an accidental deletion. When that is not enough, the deep scan reads the raw drive sector by sector and reconstructs files from their signatures, which recovers data even when the file system entry is long gone, at the cost of taking considerably longer.

The format coverage is broad, spanning documents, photos, video, and audio across the file types each of those comes in, with a preview so a file can be confirmed before it is recovered rather than restored blind. A bootable recovery option writes a rescue environment to a USB stick for the case where the system drive itself has failed and the machine will not start.

This build runs as the registered edition, which removes the recovery size cap the trial imposes and unlocks the deep scan and the bootable recovery in full. Recovered files should always be written to a different drive, which the tool enforces.

Installation

How to install it

Install to a different drive than the one you intend to recover, to avoid overwriting the lost data.
Extract the archive and run the setup executable as administrator.
Complete the installation without opening the program yet.
Apply the included registration step to remove the recovery cap and unlock the deep scan.
Start the program, select the affected drive, and recover found files to a separate drive.

Before you start

Can it recover files from a formatted drive?

Often, yes. Formatting usually leaves the data physically present, and the deep scan reconstructs it from the raw sectors.

Why must recovery go to a different drive?
